Walking Tour of some of the most beautiful squares in Rome

This walking tour will take you through the most beautiful squares in the city center. You will enjoy some of the most remarkable masterpieces of the ancient, renaissance and baroque Rome: Piazza di Trevi, with its celebrated fountain, the largest baroque fountain in the city; Piazza di Pietra, dominated by the remnants of the Temple of Hadrian on the Campus Martius; Piazza della Rotonda overlooked by the harmonious forms of the Pantheon, built under Augustus; Piazza Navona, built over the ruins of the Stadium of Domitian, Piazza Campo de’ Fiori and its colorful farmers’ market; Piazza Farnese, with the beautiful Palazzo Farnese, one of the most important renaissance palaces in Rome.

Walking Tour of ancient Rome

Friday September 16

From 10.00 a.m. till 1.00 p.m. (3 hours)

Meeting Point: Congress venue (Piazza della Pilotta 4)

This walking tour will be focused on the most important sites of ancient Rome. It will start from the Capitoline Hill, one of the Seven Hills of Rome, with its marvelous square, designed by Michelangelo, and with its impressive view over the imposing ruins of the Forums. From Capitoline Hill you will walk down to Via dei Fori Imperiali, to have a closer look at the Forums, a series of monumental public squares that were the center of the Roman Republic and of the Roman Empire (Forum of Caesar, Forum of Augustus, Forum of Nerva, Forum of Trajan). You will also admire the Palatine Hill and the Basilica of Maxentius, the largest building in the Forum, located in the same archaeological area. The tour will end at the Colosseum.

After the guided tour, you might wish to visit the Capitoline Museums, the Forums and Palatine, and the Colosseum.
