Tour of Castelli Romani

Saturday, September 17

From 10.00 a.m. till 6.00 p.m. (8 hours)

Meeting Point: Via del Teatro Marcello, 32

The Post Congress Tour will take you by bus to the Castelli Romani (Roman Castles), a group of charming, small towns located at a short distance south-east of the city of Rome, in the territory of the volcanic Alban Hills.

On the way to the Castelli you will see the old consular road Appia, which still links Rome to Naples, flanked by the ruins of old Roman aqueducts and of other remarkable monuments.

The tour includes the towns of Castel Gandolfo overlooking Lake Albano and hosting the Pontifical Villa, summer residence of the Pope; Nemi, nested on the lake of the same name; Genzano and Ariccia, among the oldest cities of ancient Latium. After a lunch in a traditional “fraschetta” (typical restaurant, were they serve local food and wine) you will visit the beautiful Monastery of Santa Maria in Grottaferrata, also known as the Greek Abbey of Saint Nilus, founded in 1004.

It is advisable to book the tour at the registration to the Congress.
